Accompanying celebrated academic, Katherine Solomon, to a lecture she’s been invited to give in Prague, Robert Langdon’s world spirals out of control when she disappears without trace from their hotel room. Far from home and out of his comfort zone, Langdon must pit his wits against forces unknown to recover the woman he loves.

But Prague is an old and dangerous place, steeped in folklore and mystery. Little can Langdon know that he is being stalked by a spectre from that dark past. He must use all of his arcane knowledge to navigate a shadow city hiding in plain sight, a city which has successfully kept its secrets for centuries and will not readily give them up...

Dan Brown returns with his first novel in more than eight years - guaranteed to have you at the edge of your seat. This time, Robert Langdon is up against a deadly conspiracy that will test him to the limits - and take him to the edge of losing everything.

I am 50% through this book now and I'm not sure I can finish it. There are pages and pages of explanation of theory, or context behind a particular historical artifact. It is so frustrating as a reader when the story just gets into its stride and this happens...I found myself rolling my eyes when Katherine was in a scene because of this. One particular chapter where they sit in a car, and the journey is essentially her explaining a complicated theory for the entire journey, it made me want to poke my eyes out. It feels as though Dan finished the book and the publishers said "actually Mr Brown, we need 400 more pages from you." Really unenjoyable so far.

Exceptionally shallow, yet convoluted story that is full of cheap cliffhangers and reads more like a film script than a thriller. Dan Brown's penultimate book was like that too. Next time he publishes, I pass.

A classic Dan Brown novel about a conspiracy involving government agencies, historic buildings, unrealistic science, codes and puzzles. The narrative is on the slow side, and in many places predictable. The setting and descriptions of Prague are immersive and beautiful.
