About this game

The robots you design will change the world! Will you show them the true meaning of love, or conquer Alaska with your robot army?

"Choice of Robots" is an epic 300,000-word interactive sci-fi novel by Kevin Gold, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Play out thirty years of your life as a brilliant robot maker, from graduate school near the present day to a future in which your robots have changed everything. Depending on your choices, your robots may be independent or obedient, clumsy or graceful, empathic or cold ... and you yourself may live to an old age happily married or alone with only robots to comfort you.

Play as male or female, gay or straight, with nine characters to romance, four alternate climax chapters, and over seventy achievements to unlock.

• Build a unique robot character—you choose everything from its shape to what it calls you.
• Instigate or prevent a robotic uprising.
• Teach your robots to love humanity, or disdain it.
• Build an artificial intelligence suitable to take control of the world's governments.
• Start a war against the United States, and win.
• Marry a human or an advanced robot, and start a family.
Your decisions as a robot maker will change the world—but at what cost?

As with all good Sci-Fi, this is just as much a time capsule of when it was written as it is a depiction of a fictional future. It's in some ways fascinatingly - almost painfully - quaint, especially with its essentially starry-eyed admiration of AI's uses and capabilities. That's not to say it's poorly thought-out, however. It's at times psychological and existential, and the incredible breadth of pathways you can explore only serves to highlight the solid foundational writing. A must-play.

This was the first CYOA novel I played and it's still where I'd recommend anyone should start. Quite short but the story can branch out in wildly different directions and you'll want to replay it at least a couple of times. It's very fun and a proper page-turner, but it does lack the emotional punch that some others have achieved (Choice of Rebels, Fallen Hero, Wayhaven etc). I also feel the endings don't *quite* live up to how the first half sparks your imagination. Still, highly recommend.

A lovely and emotion filled game. I was very fond of the gameplay flow of Choice of Magics and how every choice had a repurcussion whether it be stats or story wise, and its the same here. It wasn't too deeply involved in characterization but the characters were still likeable and the story was good, the plot unique. I would say it's definitely worth the money. It's a very touching game.
